Kaver Sandhu sharing the story behind House of Kaver and the journey into private barrel selections.

Our Story

Every House Has an Origin

The Beginning

HOUSE OF KAVER BEGAN WITH A QUESTION.

In 2020, during the height of COVID, I came home late one night when my neighbor asked what I did for work. With only essential businesses open, I told him my family owned liquor stores.

He laughed at first, thinking I was making a stereotypical Punjabi joke.

I wasn't.

Then he asked me a question that would change everything:

“Do you guys do private barrel picks?”

My response was simple:

“What the heck is that?”

That question led to my first private barrel selection—an experience I shared with my dad and the neighbor who started it all.

There was no grand plan. No brand to build. I was simply fascinated by the idea that among countless barrels of whiskey, one could be completely different from the next—and that we could choose the one we believed was truly exceptional.

One barrel became another. Our circle grew. Customers became friends, and friends became something closer to a whiskey family.

What started with a simple question became a pursuit that would shape my palate, my standard, and six years later, the House itself.

The Pursuit

THE GOAL WAS NEVER TO SELECT MORE BARRELS.

THE GOAL WAS TO SELECT THE RIGHT ONES.

Over the next six years, I tasted and considered nearly 500 barrels. Only 30 earned a selection.

With every tasting, my palate evolved and the standard became harder to satisfy. I stopped searching for a particular flavor profile and started searching for something far more important:

A reason.

Why This Barrel?

What Makes it Different?

What Makes it Memorable?

What Makes it Worthy of Carrying Our Name?

The distillery already makes great whiskey. My job isn't to recreate what they've already done. It's to find the barrel that tells a different story—the one that gives you an experience you couldn't have gotten from the bottle sitting beside it.

Sometimes that means finding flavors that remind us of food. Sometimes it's nostalgia. Sometimes a single sip takes you somewhere completely unexpected.

Because for me, exceptional whiskey shouldn't only taste different.

It Should Make You Feel Something.

And if a barrel doesn't?

We walk away.

The House

SOMEWHERE ALONG THE WAY, SOMETHING CHANGED.

In the beginning, people asked about the whiskey.

What does it taste like? What's the proof? What's different about this one?

Then the question became:

“Did Kav pick it?”

When the answer was yes, sometimes that was all they needed to hear.

“Put me down for a couple bottles of the next one—whatever it is.”

That trust meant more to me than any sellout ever could.

Because every time someone buys a bottle I've selected, they're trusting my palate before they've tasted what's inside. They're trusting that if I put my name behind something, there was a reason.

That's a responsibility I refuse to take lightly.

After six years,

nearly 500 barrels considered,

30 private selections,

One realization.

It needed a home.

House of Kaver was created to be that home.

A home for the selections.

A home for the stories.

A home for the people who became family along the way.

And now, a home for everything still to come.

THIS ISN'T THE BEGINNING OF THE JOURNEY.

IT'S THE HOME THE JOURNEY BUILT.

THE HOUSE DIDN'T CREATE THE LEGACY.

THE LEGACY CREATED THE HOUSE.
